Beauty in the Bathroom

Baubled votives for cotton balls and q-tips- Anthropologie

The past few days have been devoted to sprucing up our bathroom decor.  Since our new bedroom didn't have the space for a jewelry armoire and vanity, I needed to find storage pieces for my makeup and accessories that were pretty enough to display in the bathroom, but were functional as well.  Since I am a visual person, I wanted to be able to see everything on the counter so I could quickly pick and choose my options before heading out the door.  As I am sure you can tell by the photos, I am on a bit of vintage kick, finding various vanity trays and holders at flea markets, boutiques and of course, Anthropologie.  Where I place these items in the bathroom may change over time (I don't want to take up ALL of the "shared" counter space) but I am overall pleased with the purchases so far. xx

Welcome Home

Steven by Steve Madden Pembrook Bootie

It has officially been 1 full week living in our new apartment.  Thanks to a packed schedule, the time has flown by, but in my few moments of downtime I have already grown to appreciate so many things about our new home.  In an effort to get back on track with my ES posting schedule, throughout this week I will be featuring the things that make me smile every everytime I walk in the door.  To kick it off, I wanted to share a sometimes forgotten favorite, which is our amazing rooftop views.  Since I wanted to incorporate fashion in this photo shoot, I decided to take some interesting skyline shots with my favorite suede booties in tow.   Lucky for us the roof is large enough that we have incredible uptown and downtown views, which means I have a clear shot of my favorite building, the Chrysler.  Looking forward to sharing new pictures this week! xx

{Inspiration}

Check out Emily's full WSJ interview here

This week has been crazy hectic (hence the lack of posts).  With the apartment move this weekend, my life is half in boxes and I am just 2 weeks away from the half marathon race in New Orleans.  While at times I have felt stressed and overwhelmed, I am trying to channel my energy toward checking things off my to do list. Whether it is making purchase decisions on our new furniture, picking up cards and gifts for loved ones birthdays, or purging my current closet, slowly but surely progress is being made.  Since my time has been limited these days, my post inspirations are coming from many different facets of my life.  As you know, I am always inspired by my favorite blogger, Emily Schuman from Cupcakes and Cashmere. She has been in NY for Fashion Week and recently did an interview with the Wall Street Journal.  After seeing this interview, I was beyond excited to get back on track with frequent postings.  She makes a lot of great remarks regarding the success of her blogging career, which is inspiration in itself.  While ES is just a teeny part of the blogosphere world, it is great to have bloggers like Emily to aspire to be.  If you want to check out the full interview, you can click the link above.  xx

Bargain Thrills

Platform Boots: Steve Madden

For me, there are few feelings in the world better than finding a shoe bargain.  So you can imagine my delight last week when I stumbled upon the pictured beauties for...

wait for it...

$20! I coincidentally (I swear) had been on the hunt for a pair of camel platform booties.  Not only did this pair fit the bill, but I loved the unexpected zipper detailing in the back.  Since they hit at my lower calf (vs. all of my traditional ankle booties) they were a nice addition to my shoe collection.  Added bonus: the added platform makes these heels ultra comfortable (I have already worn them twice in the past 6 days).  I have a feeling my $20 bill is going to go a long way this season.  xx

The Next Chapter

Clockwise from top left: Ochre and Grey Chevron Pillow; Vintage Fan, Gold Brushed Ceramic Bowls,
DIY Pipe Garment Rack, Gold Milk Jug; Vintage Frame Re-painted, Tufted Storage Ottoman,

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I am in the process of moving into a new apartment.  Since I haven't moved in almost 3 years, I am really excited to re-invigorate the space my boyfriend and I will be living in.  While there are of course a few decor pieces in my current home that I will take with me, I am looking to incorporate a new theme for this exciting transition in my life.  Since our new apartment has a lot of great character touches such as exposed brick and french doors, I love the idea of featuring vintage pieces alongside classic modern staples.  I am envisioning a lot of neutral tones (I have to keep in mind that I will now be living with a boy), with highlights of gold and silver gray.  The above pieces are things I have found over the past month or so that I am hoping to incorporate into our new decor.  Some are great DIY projects (a pipe garment rack and repainted vintage frames) while others are worthwhile purchases (a tufted storage ottoman).  I am really looking forward to sharing pictures of the final outcome once we are all settled in.  xx
