Apricot and Gorgonzola

A few weeks ago, my friend (and fellow blogger, NYC Menu Girl) came up with the brilliant idea for some of our neighborhood friends to do a progressive dinner.   Because our kitchens aren't quite the size of those in suburbia, we decided to do one appetizer and one signature cocktail at each apartment.  Since there were 4 participating apartments, this turned out to be the perfect amount of food and drink for the evening.  We were the last stop on the tour so we wanted to do something that was savory and sweet.  We decided on this recipe, which is Apricot-Gorgonzola Crescents.  As you can see from the ingredients, this is an easy dish to make and is packed with the perfect mix of fruit and cheese flavor.  For our signature drink, we did our own take on 5 Napkin Burger's Dark and Stormy float.  Ingredients include Rum Raisin Ice Cream, Ginger Beer, and of course Rum (mustache straws are optional).  xx

Routine Changes

Clockwise from top left:  Make Up For Ever HD Microfinishing Powder; Laura Mercier Primer;
Fresh Sugar Lip Gloss; Bobbi Brown Bronzer; Benefit Erase Paste; Stila Eyeshadow Palette;
 Nars Blush in Orgasm; Anastasia Brow Fix Pencil; Suave Dry Shampoo

I have really stepped up my beauty routine of late.  I am not really sure where the motivation came from, but I now enjoy taking the time to do my makeup every morning.  While I still try to keep the end result looking minimal and fresh faced, I do more than just brush on powder and mascara.  For example, thanks to a sample bag I received at Sephora, I started using Laura Mercier's primer lotion (pictured above) and found that my foundation powder went on AND stayed on so much better.  I also was introduced to Make Up Forever's HD Finishing Powder, which has essentially changed my life (yes I am exaggerating, but you get the idea).  This powder literally takes 3 seconds to apply and makes your entire face look airbrushed! Since I love all of my new beauty items so much, I wanted to share them in case you are on the market for a new product.  Do you have any makeup items you swear by?  xx

Old School

Archie Grand Notebook

I have always been a sucker for quirky office items.  While I don't have much room for a work space in our apartment, I still appreciate the few things I can buy.  I had seen the adorable Archie Grand "I Met and Liked" notebooks before, but always seemed to pass over them when it came to purchase time.  However this past weekend I had a few minutes to peruse the boutiques in Rehoboth Beach, DE and found these lovely notebooks on mega sale.  While I typically create different idea notepads on my phone, I realized there is something much more personal in having an old-school "idea book" on hand.  I decided to go with the "Fashionistas I Met and Liked" option to make it extra appropriate for my ES brainstorming thoughts.  Which Archie Grand notebook is your favorite?  xx

Summer Prep

Clockwise from top left:  J Brand Jeans; J.Crew Jeans; Zara Jeans; Hive and Honey sandals; DV by Dolce Vita Sandals; Rachel Zoe Sandals; Seychelles Sandals; Steve Madden Sandals; Zara Bag; J.Crew Bag; Rebecca Minkoff Bag

I was asked by a friend to pick out some pieces she is in need of for the upcoming summer season.  She was looking for cropped colored denim jeans, flat sandals, and the perfect everyday bag.  While there are about a million different options to choose from right now, I tried to narrow it down to brands I know and love, while keeping the price tag in mind.  Pictured above are the picks I chose.  I think my favorite thing about each of these items is that they all come in multiple color options (even including the shoes!).  Which ones are your favorites?  xx

Spring Pastels

Pretty pastel belts at Bellaritta

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday weekend.  I was lucky enough to have my sister in town for a few days, which made Easter seem a little more like home.  Since we didn't have any set plans, the weekend consisted of boutique browsing, casual meals, rooftop lounging and some cocktails in between.  While I am officially "allowed" to shop again, this past weekend was the final countdown.  We hit up just about every store below Houston so I decided that since I couldn't buy anything, I would take pictures of pieces inspiring my upcoming purchases.  In case you can't tell, I am dying to get some pastel colors in my life.  I am also pining over bandeau tops, which can be paired with flowy maxis or high waisted jeans.

While I am very excited to be back on the shopping scene, my 40 day hiatus did teach me that I need to be more selective.  My limited closet space should only be filled with things I truly love, instead of one-time wear sale pieces.  Let's just hope I can remember this lesson a month from now!  xx

Yummy Reminders

It has been a goal of mine to collect restaurant cards from every new place I try.  While I only started doing this about a year or so ago, my boyfriend and I have already grown quite the collection of cards.  Rather than have these yummy reminders sit in a memory box under our bed, I wanted to display them in a decorative frame.  Since the only frame I had on hand wasn't big enough to fit all of the cards, I narrowed it down to our favorites.  Whether it was an unforgettable meal we shared or a fun group dinner with friends, every restaurant in this frame encapsulates a special meaning in our lives.  As I continue to collect more cards, I hope to expand the collage to a larger frame.  But for now, it has become a lovely addition to the living room bookshelf.  xx

One Year

It has officially been one year since I created Empire Stilettos.  It has been a wonderful first year and I am thankful everyday for everyone that continues to visit the site.  Since I have never been good at picking favorites,  I wanted to share a variety of my pictures, collages, etc from the past year.  I hope you enjoy! xx
